Double Boiler Heaters for Electroless Nickel Plating

Double Boiler

For double boiler heaters, Screw Plug or Flanged Immersion Heaters are commonly used in electroless nickel plating process.

A double boiler is a dip processing tank inside the heating tank. Used in special processing where the chemistry of the dip tank must be controlled.

The chemical process of Electroless Nickel Plating can use double boilers. The outer tank is usually filled with inhibited ethylene glycol or a heat transfer oil. We can help you reduce your costs and get the lowest BTU per square inch.

De-rated immersion heaters are 15-20 watts per square inch, usually designed with an electro polished sheath. The 15-20 WSI on the sheath material results in a 3 WSI in the double boiler tank. Because all of the surface area is being used to heat the chemistry, the tank is very effective.

Electroless nickel plating equipment requires no anodes, power supply or electrical connection of any kind. The process simply entails mixing together some solutions, heating them to just off the boil, and then immersing the part to be plated. An auto catalytic electrochemical reaction takes place and the nickel is evenly deposited all over the part being plated. The thickness of the plate will depend on the duration of immersion. To stop the reaction, remove the part from the solution. Like all plating, the brightness of the plate depends on the brightness of the part before plating. The brighter the shine initially, the brighter the shine after plating. Numerous variations of the final finish are achieved by changing the surface preparation.
